GRAPGICK

Swing Stool is a product design concept created to support children with Hyperactivity and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD).

The bench is divided into two functional seats: an upper seat that allows controlled swinging, and a middle seat that can be flipped to create a safer and more stable sitting position.

The project explores how design can improve concentration, comfort, and emotional regulation while also helping to destigmatize ADHD through inclusive and accessible products.

Measures : 42x41 cm

Material : Reusable polyoxymethylene

🎯 Concept & Purpose

Hyperactivity and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) affects a large number of children and adults, often influencing school performance, social interaction, and emotional regulation. Although treatments exist, there is a lack of everyday products that help children manage these challenges in a natural and positive way.

Swing Stool was designed as a functional and playful seating solution that allows movement when needed and stability when focus is required. The goal was to create a product that supports both physical comfort and emotional well-being, while remaining accessible and democratic in design.

The Process

Images of and some products have been collected and sketches have been created to have more knowledge of the brand and how the product could be made.

After that, sketches more detailed were made to create the idealized product, from measures to more consistent forms/lines.

Then I moved on to the program AutoDesk Fusion 360 in order to start having a consistency of the product digitally.

The idealized material, to be inserted in the 3D model and in the final prototype, would be reused acetal plastic (polyoxymethylene or POM).

The first step needed was to make the digital sketches, then create the form and volume so that I could insert the material I would want the product to have.

Then, with the model seemingly finalized through the program PrusaSlicer, ithe project proceeded to the 3D printing of the product model created in Fusion 360. The file was saved in 3mf in the way to make that happen.

Renders

High-quality renders were created to visualize the final product, highlighting form, color, and material qualities.

These visuals communicate how Swing Stool functions within an everyday environment and how it supports children’s activities.

FAQ

Durability

The Swing Stool is made from acetal plastic (POM), a material known for its excellent durability, strength, and low friction.

Additional uses

  • Besides seating, the stool can support objects, store materials, or act as a small side surface when part of the seat is pulled out.

Frequency of use

  • The stool does not need to be used constantly. It is intended for moments when the child needs to calm down, focus, or perform seated activities.

Safety

Despite the swinging function, the product was designed to ensure stability and controlled movement, making it safe and accessible for children.

Colors

The product is only sold in these 3 colors in order to represent its purpose, to raise awareness about ADHD.

The orange (the brand color) combines red, the symbol of pure energy, with yellow, the symbol of happiness.

This creates an association with joy and sunshine, representing enthusiasm, happiness, creativity and stimulation.
